REST

Proper Rest

Being fully rested is one of the most important influences on your productivity, health and well-being.

But because our society revolves around its own concepts of "success", many people have become pressed by work and their personal desires to achieve that "success". The day is filled with many important and seemingly urgent responsibilities, so rest is easily pushed to the bottom of the list. Yet, many do not realize how much more effectively and efficiently their minds, bodies and souls would function, and how much more likely they would reach their goals of "success" if they gave themselves the right kind of rest, at the right time.

Scientific research has proven that losing sleep accounts for over 30,000 auto crashes and about 900 crash-related deaths per year in the United States. Lack of sleep impairs your attention, concentration, short-term memory, and reasoning and problem-solving skills.

A 2010 survey revealed that the average American accumulates 18 vacation days but only uses 16. Furthermore, in 2013, Americans collectively left 429 million paid time off days on the table. In 2014, around 42 percent of Americans said they didn’t take a single vacation day!

We all know that rest is important. By slowly incorporating more rest into each night, week, month and year won’t seem overwhelming if you do it properly.

  1. Go to be 15 minutes earlier then increase it to 30 minutes after a couple weeks.
  2. Go for a walk on your lunch break to incorporate a much needed break to your day.
  3. Plan your family vacations ahead so you have something to look forward to.
  4. Turn your phone on silent or off during dinner time so you are fully present with your family.

Rest rejuvenates the mind, body and spirit, empowering you to function at your best. Rest includes a good night’s sleep as well as time to relax and rejuvenate weekly, monthly and yearly.
